The Jon Gabriel Method

I've been at it since the 18th of March. People keep commenting on my appearance, telling my "you look good!" or "Wow! You're really loosing weight!" and then they ask me what I'm doing.

At this point I have to decide to:

  • a) Grin sheepishly and say "you'd laugh"

or

  • b) Tell them about the Gabriel Method

Invariably if I choose option "a" they respond "I might, but tell me anyway!" lol

So I do.

Sometimes they laugh, sometimes they don't, but most everyone is intrigued.

Let me start by saying my mother put me on my first diet when I was 7 years old. I was the youngest member of the gym where we lived. I wasn't obese, (yet!) but I wasn't the skinny kid that got made fun of for being skin and bones either. However, that early dieting, coupled with a traumatic move and some other issues, turned on what Jon calls my "fat programs". I tried almost every diet out there. In high school I had a personal trainer. I did low fat high carb, I did low carb high protein, I counted points, you name it I have probably done it! Some of them would work for a while and then something would happen and I would inevitably slip up which would lead to weight gain and lowered self esteem for failing at yet another thing. (which only turns the fat programs up higher). I started to notice that, usually, when I felt good about myself or was in a good situation I would loose weight automatically, but even the smallest stress and the weight would just come back on with a vengeance, and sometimes it would come back without any good reason. I started to despair that I would never be pretty/desirable/get married and was complaining to my dad, and asking for help to pay for a gym membership, since I remembered that sort of worked for a while, and I wanted to try something new I had found on the internet (low reps high weights to start up my "fat burning furnace"). My dad was emotionally supportive as always, but said that he didn't think the gym would work any better this time than last time. He then suggested I try out the Gabriel Method. I must interject here that my father is a medical doctor and is completely against anything "airy fairy" or "out there". He doesn't hold stock in homeopathy or most herbal medicines or meditation or any such thing. He was a power lifter (weights) for a while and has had a home gym that he uses almost daily (without loosing weight!) So, when he suggested a program whose main tenant was a relaxation and visualization CD I was more than shocked. The first thing I did was get that book and download the CD.

As I read the book for the first time I was amazed at what Jon was saying and how much it fit with my own findings of when I would loose weight but added information to explain why I would stop loosing and start gaining. It just made so much sense! I started listening to the CD as I was going to sleep, and, I know how odd this sounds, but it's really working. With Jon's help I'm combating my emotional and nutritional famine and telling my body that thin is safe and it's working!!!!!!

I am planning to put a monthly update on this blog of my progress and encourage others to comment and share their experiences with the Jon Gabriel Method and if you haven't checked out Jon's website, please do!

I'm also planning on writing a post that tells a little what the Gabriel method is all about.. so stay tuned!!
