If I Had Known I Was Carrying a Down Syndrome Baby...

We arrived in Israel on Thursday. I always feel shell-shocked when I first land in Israel. However, we always make a point of going to the Kotel – the Western Wall every Friday night in Jerusalem.   In my everyday life I struggle to feel spiritual yet when I am at the Kotel, I feel like I have  a direct connection with God.
Four years ago when we arrived in Israel, I had just found out that I was pregnant. After three years of trying to conceive and two miscarriages, I was so grateful and elated to share my happiness with the almighty.  If I had known that that the fetus in me was a baby with Down syndrome, I am sure I would have begged the almighty to change the fate of the baby inside me. I would have been terrified.
This past Friday, I was touching the Wall and thanking god for my blessings. I thanked him so much for bring Caily into our world.   She is the light of our home and a delight to all who meet her.  Instead of making my soul sore, she makes my soul soar.
The rest of the communication was thanking god for giving me the perspective to see the gifts in my life. Our perspective is our reality and we simply have a choice as to how we view the world.

Jodi -- beautiful and so true. I tell often the story of how we discovered that we both had children with D. Syndrome -- it's such an example of hashkacha pratis, dont' you think? It's moments like these that fill my heart with gratitude to the A-Mighty for allowing me a glimpse behind the curtain.  Enjoy every moment. Holly

I just came back from six weeks in Israel with Noam! ( who has Down Syndrome)... Jerusalem gave me back my belief, showed me to believe in Noam and trust that together we will show him the way to the amazing person he is becoming! There is something about Israel and Jerusalem! Have a wonderful wonderful time!
