You all ask how do I juggle it all and stay so calm? My secret to success is planning.
I am the master of lists. I always have a pencil and paper on hand and every little thing I think of- I write down.
Each night before I go to sleep, I write my to-do list for tomorrow… including a short list of the top 10 things to do no matter what! When you have a clear plan of what you need to do it’s so much less daunting. It’s great because I am always planning ahead, always adding to my list, and most importantly planning out my day the night before.
I often write short lists for various topics on post it notes. I have my lists of what to pack for vacation, what to buy, what to make for Shabbat, who to invite to a party, even a list of topics to write for this blog! I feel safe once I have inked my thoughts and I pop them in a file. Each Sunday I go through my mini lists.
The nanny gets a list.
Gavin gets a list.
The therapists get a list.
In fact my son saw so many lists that he used to think a list was a sign of love. Every time someone came over he would draw a list and give it to them and proudly say “I made you a list.” You should see people’s expressions when a cute kid gives them a “list”
So while I am famous for being the event aficionado, my success as the Event Queen is a direct result of my success as the List Queen.
