I realized last week that I needed to start my Shabbat prep a little earlier in the week. Well, I actually have BEEN realizing it more and more every week as we lose minutes on the daylight and next weekend...my goose will be cooked, literally, if I don't get it together a little better.
I took steps this week. Rabbi T wrote and asked if I wanted to learn Thursday evening for a bit and I declined for two reasons...one, he has plans after and needs to focus on them a little methinks and b) I need to get my Shabbat on!
This means planning the menu:
- cole slaw - we make a vinaigrette version with splenda, scallions, rice noodles and craisins. Scrumptious.
- pickled beets - my weakness
- chumus and veggies - good choice, eh Benji?
- steak of some sort...depends on what's on sale at kosher mart I suppose
- my own challah stuffed with parve Israeli chocolate spread
- Trader Joe's GF brownies and the fabulous apple-sour cherry crisp for dessert
- a deli roll for Evan for Shabbos lunch (maybe two, the kid can put them DOWN) and a soup of some sort in the crock pot
I think that should keep us pretty happy until we head out for movie night at shul after havdallah to see "
Praying with Lior".
Plus it will also mean my Friday afternoon can be pretty stress free. This is, provided, natch, that I get some work on the 5-7 page paper on the history of labor laws and movements pretty fleshed out tonight and then tomorrow after I am done with shab preps.
I don't MIND being efficient. As a contracts manager and general all around Batgirl, I thrive in that kind of situation. Making the Shabbat a wonderful, stress free experience for my family makes ME happy. Welcoming the Shabbat Bride...well, I love that feeling.
Boi kallah! Boi kallah!!
