I have taught hineni young couples and parenting classes for the past fifteen years. we discuss relationships, marriage and raising children with character all based on Torah's incredible wisdom...a wisdom that has been guiding us for thousands of years. As our world brings us greater challenges and we find it more difficult to hold on and create homes that endure, I find that this incredible wisdom anchors us and guides us through every situation. This year I was priveleged to have my book, Raising A Child With Soul, published by St. Martin's Press. I have been lecturing and doing book signings; and I have met parents who are all united by one cause: raising children with soul!

- thank you for a quick reply! I think i will be a bit more specific. Most of the people i am talking about are grandparents and aunts and uncles. When we go to my parents and my son makes a mess, he is generally yelled at that he mad ea huge mess, how could he, he needs to clean it up, and when he doesn't listen, they turn to us and say "why don't you discipline your son so that he knows he can't make messes like that?" To us though, children make messes, and that is sometimes how their creativity comes about and how they learn and explore, and when he in finished playing, THEN we encourage him to clean up. We tried explaining that to them, but they just said we need to be more firm and incontrol, and if we don't discipline him now, what will happen when he's 20? I don't want to hurt them, but honestly, i resent the way they parented me and my siblings, and i don't want my children, b'ezras hashem, to feel that was about us.

- Hi Slovie, i was wondering what to do about visiting with relatives and them not agreeing with your parenting style. I don't believe that yelling and yelling and yelling is always the way to discipline. We have our other ways and they work. They are not necessarily the way that these family memories would agree with, but Bli ayin hara, my son is not rambuncious, and rude, and off the wall. He is calm and he makes messes, and behaves likes a 4 year old B"H. I don't think i am doing anything wrong in how i am parenting him, but i wanted to know how to tell these other family members that i am handling it in my own way and to please back off a little.
