Looking for a midwife? (What's a MIDWIFE...?)

Still a well-kept secret in the OB community, midwifery care has been around a lot longer than Obstetrics.  In fact, we midwives like to quip that midwifery is the "second oldest profession..." Having switched to midwifery care for my last 2 children, and then followed my midwife's encouragement to become a midwife myself 10 years ago, I feel like I am in a position to answer anyone's questions or concerns about this very special form of women's health care.  If you are interested in different…See More

Not quite sure what anyone wants to know, so I'll keep it brief. I am a midwife and childbirth educator, and am currently running an Ob/GYn residency program in a busy NYC hospital. I am married to a wonderful ben-Torah and currently 4 of our 6 children are living in Israel. We lived in Mexico City before moving to Far Rockaway 20 years ago, where we were members of a Sephardic kollel and were involved in Kiruv and teaching. Our Shabbos table is filled with interesting guests, and, as a women's health care professional, I have a great deal of contact with local (and not so local) Rabbonim, regarding halachic issues that come up for many women in the community. Straddling both the Torah world and the professional one has been challenging, but also very rewarding.
