Pacing Ourselves for Pesach

I did what my mother has only dreamed of doing.  This year, I hired a cleaning lady.  Yes, it was minor blow to my ego, but I figured as a working mother who is 38 weeks pregnant, I was entitled to a little bit of help.  The truth is, that I have been so inspired by my suddenly clean home, that I've been embarking on new organizational adventures beyond my wildest dreams.  The very evening after my cleaning lady came for the first time, for example, I was compelled to clean the area where we…See More

Living and Learning from Grief and Guilt

(photo credit)It had been a hellacious week already - the term "somthing's been going around" would be in an understatement to describe the amount of physically sick people in my life - my son, then my husband, then my son's babysitter.  Would I ever get to work again? I was getting ready to leave my sick family and finally head to class when I got a phone call about yet…See More

"Whoa! What a story! Pregnancy is not just 'eating for two' it's also being healthy for two. Actually a mother has to take better care of herself because she is so important to so many others.  Refuah Shleima. "

"Have you checked out JoyofKosher.com and/or Jamie Geller's Blog?   Both are great resources for cooking and you know they at least have your first priority covered :)"

Your Personal Chef: the Internet

(Credit)In Parshas Mishpatim, the Torah reiterates the seperation between milk and meat three times.  We gather from this that not only can we not mix these items in the food we eat, and be extra stringent by seperating any…See More

Getting the Most from Online Couponing

(Credit.)About a month ago I gained an insidious obsession. Yes, I am a coupon freak. I pick up the free newspaper "Sun Plus" from homes I know are vacant, subscribe to the weekend paper solely for the ads and coupons and print hundreds of sheets of coupons online. Now to be fair, I'm new at this, so I only use about an…See More

"I'm glad to hear both sides of this.  I think it was definitely in "poor taste," as Rebecca states, but I think we also have to cut Mitisyahu a little bit of slack, as he is human like the rest of us.  Still, as a father and…"

Who Says Orthodox Jews are Old Fashioned?

(credit)I got to meet the Jamie Geller, the author of the new kosher cookbook series Quick & Kosher at a party last night! Okay, granted it was a Twitter Party so I chatted with her online in sightly-delayed time, but I still think it counts!Kosher.com and H20 Pink Label are just two of…See More

Join the Kosher Conversation!

It was a busy Sunday evening and I had out-of-town guests and a house to clean all at the same time, a party to host! I had never even attended a twitter party, in spite of my previous attempts, and I have to admit that the whole idea sounded daunting and not a little nerdy. However, this particular Twitter Party had to do with a topic pretty close to my heart: tznius. We were pleased to have over seventy guests join our little gathering, and the conversation was great! We even had some…See More

Window Shopping

(Credit)Black Friday is coming up and I’m psyched. I’ve been quite the coupon and advertisement fiend lately, using retailmenot for all of my mall shopping coupons and coupons.com for a good portion of my grocery and pharmacy items (hint: Drug Stores, such as Walgreens and CVS have some of the best sales around when you use manufacturer’s and store coupons together). I spend hours scouring newspapers…See More

Here We Go Again

My custom is to wait five months before announcing a pregnancy, but here I am at 18 weeks and there doesn't seem to be a question in anyone's mind: IY"H, I'm having another baby! When I had my son, I read all the magazine and books and prepped as much as a Chassidshe mom can before having a baby, but of course every aspect of pregnancy, delivery and new motherhood was surprising in spite of the many warning I read about and got from other mothers. They say every pregnancy, delivery and baby are…See More
