DIY Toy Kitchen!

L'shana tova! My twin daughters turned two years old this weekend.  Happy New Year for me!  I've been anxious to tell everybody what I've been making for the girls' second birthday. And now that it's done, and it's been tested out by my children, and many "Ooh!"s and "Aah!"s have been exclaimed, it's time for the big reveal. It's a toy kitchen! It's a toy kitchen! (I know, the title gave…See More

And doggone it...

To whom it may concern,I know this is probably tacky and inappropriate, but I'm having one of those weeks (which, if I gave you the details for, you would sit down and eat this box of caramel filled chocolate covered toffee dusted marshmallows with me- yeah, you read that right).I'm nominating myself. Why?  Why would I do that?Because I'm freakin' awesome, that's why.  Because I have weeks like THIS week, and instead of eating the whole box of super-fancy chocolate by myself, I go online and…See More

The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts

Save 3 lives today!I firmly believe that I am an example.  Perhaps the most important example my daughters will ever have.  We look to our parents to show what it means to be a human being, but also what it means to be whatever other modifiers we need to understand... What does it mean to be a female human being?  An  adult human being?  A Jewish human being?  A human being building…See More

In Honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month

At thirteen, I found myself one evening marching in a "Take Back the Night" rally, megaphone in hand and leading a horde of chanting women through the University of Michigan campus.I've been thinking about that experience a lot the past few days. This is an unsafe world.  There are so many dangers we can protect ourselves from, and so many we can protect our children from, but not all.  Not nearly all. That rally was misguided.  The idea was to protest rape and sexual abuse, but most rapes and…See More

Nap Time- Otherwise KNown As, That Which Keeps Me Sane

DD being ridiculous... ridiculously EXHAUSTING!I'm not proud, I'll admit it.  I NEED my children to take a nice, long nap during the day.  I NEED to have a few hours in the middle of the afternoon to do (or procrastinate doing) my homework, drink a cup of tea, and generally chillax.  I NEED our regularly scheduled nap time, just as much as my children.  Without a nap, they reach the end of…See More

The Tibetan Book of the Dead and Jewish Guilt

When my husband and I decided to have a baby, we knew we couldn't just take a bottle of wine and some Barry White and make a night of it.  With M's cancer treatment, it was unsure if he would ever be able to go about things in the standard way, but we had a back-up plan banked at the hospital.  IVF it was, the least fun method of conception known to man. During the build up to the IVF, I…See More
