Do you have recipes to share? How do you actually make it - e.g., steam it and then puree? Do you reuse glass jaws from other baby food to store it or do you use icecube trays? Tell us about your experience...
My girls still eat all organic. When they were at the first foods, it was waaaay too much money and work to steam and then puree all the veges needed to feed them. I used Earth's Best and it was great. A few times I made them foods like beets and parsnips and it wasn't that hard - but the quantities that I had to make for the 3 of them made it cost prohibitive. I also could never quite get the consistency of the carrots right - sweet potatoes - yes, apple sauce - yes... It also takes a ridiculous amount of cooking time....
There is this new appliance a Beaba Babycook that steams the food and then purees it...so only 1 device to clean. But remember you only do this for about 6-8 months and then when their teeth come in you give them real food from your own plate.
The coolest homemade baby food idea i have seen came from a dear friend (with 5 girls) who never buys a jar. The doc told her to feed the baby everything but honey and dairy. So she make rice & beans and beets etc, grinds them up in the mouli, and freezes them in ice cube trays!
She pops them out and stores them in ziplocs in the freezer with the name of the dish written on the bag. When it's dinner time, we just pull out a cube of this and one of that, heat, and serve. Baby T loves it! (but not the parsnips...)
