They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. I think more specifically it’s a good pie. My dad, my husband, and pretty much any of the yeshiva guys I’ve had over when given a choice of desserts will 9 times out of 10 choose pie.
So, for the first pie recipe on the site I decided to include my favorite – a classic apple pie. It’s a beautiful and tasty way to end any meal.
INGREDIENTSpastry for a 8 inch double crust pie
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup water
1 T cinnamon
6 Granny Smith or other baking apples – peeled, cored and sliced
DIRECTIONSStart by melting the butter in a sauce pan, then stir in flour so that it forms a paste. Add white sugar, brown sugar and water; bring to a boil. Reduce temperature, and simmer 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples and sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover the apples with a lattice work of crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust but pour very slowly so that it doesn’t gush over and make a mess.
Bake 15 minutes at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.
