We are pleased to inform you that this year on the High Holidays together with our longstanding rabbi, Isaac Mann, we will have the services of a world-renowned cantor – Shmuel Bodenheimer, better known as “Bodi.” Besides his hazzanut skills, he is acclaimed as a singer and songwriter and leader of the Jewish music group Bsamim. He is also a film/television composer and entertainment industry entrepreneur. Our services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur should prove to be spiritually and musically uplifting.
The High Holiday services will take place in our previous location -- at Ohab Zedek (OZ), 118 West 95th Street, in the social hall. If you have davened with us before, please join us again. If you have not, then come and be part of a small heimishe traditional Orthodox minyan that has been part of the West Side community for over seventy years. Founded by refugees from Vienna and Prague, we continue to maintain the Ashkenaz customs in an environment that is friendly and outreaching. Whoever comes will be honored with an aliyah or with opening the holy ark. Our gabbai, Laury Blitz, is always happy to accommodate your requests.
Best of all, there is no charge. The services are free to whoever cannot afford the cost of seats. Of course, if you can afford to contribute, we welcome and encourage your donations.
While the shul has not had regular Sabbath services for the past few years, we continue to function for the holidays, and we continue to maintain our cemetery plots at Mount Moriah. We are hoping that at some point later this year, we can sponsor a cultural event that will highlight the contribution of Austrian Jews to Jewish life in the United States. .
The schedule of our services is as follows:
ROSH HASHANAH
Wednesday evening September 8 -- 7:10 P.M.
Thursday morning September 9 -- 9:00 A.M.
